PURPOSE OF THE JUNIOR GOLF OF SOUTHERN NEVADA The Junior Golf of Southern Nevada (JGSN) was formed in 2006 to promote junior golf activities, to teach the rules and etiquette of golf, and to secure instruction, practice and playing privileges for its members as well as helping young children develop a positive character and good sportsmanship. No other sport in existence can teach a child the attributes of becoming a successful adult in this ever changing, competitive world like golf can. Learning the game of golf gives youngsters the opportunity to learn a sport that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. JGSN will not only give juniors the opportunity to receive proper instruction in the play of the game but also teaches them a set of standards in the Rules of Golf and a code of ethics in learning the etiquette of the game. Because we teach children to be individuals not just a team mate, golf forces kids to learn to make their own decisions and live with the consequences. Golf is a game of honesty and integrity and the junior golfers learn from the very beginning that if they cheat in golf, they are only cheating themselves. The mission of this association is to develop players that will continue their golfing experience to the college level and beyond to the Professional Tour players, and /or local PGA professionals by providing quality local events. Many of the best local players go elsewhere now and their parents spend an extraordinarily large amount of money to get their children exposed to college coaches The tournaments will be ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and the results will appear in Golfweek Magazine which will give them the rankings and the exposure right here in our community. The goal is to give the members the necessary exposure to allow them to obtain golf scholarships and obtain a great education as well. In my career of 24 years as part of Junior Golf in Southern Nevada, 75 % of the members have experienced college using golf as their avenue to do that and there have been 100 or more juniors that have gone on to play on the PGA TOUR, LPGA TOUR, Nationwide TOUR, California TOUR and the Futures Tour. Countless numbers have gone on to professional careers within the golfing industry. Our mission is to bring that competitive spirit and development of players back to Southern Nevada. JGSN provides a year round schedule of activities for its members, including, instructional clinics and seminars on the Rules of Golf as well as a year round tournament schedule which utilizes most of the Las Vegas area golf courses. JGSN strives to provide a healthy, positive outlet for the juniors energies and a worthwhile activity for time which might otherwise be used for non-productive activities. The opportunities of learning golf are unlimited. It can provide a way for a junior to attend college on a scholarship. JGSN will offer 8-10 scholarships to graduating seniors each year. Golf also offers them the opportunity to use their learned skills to become successful in the business world.
